RCE 4176 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Melanie Klein, Incest, Attachment Theory
Document Summary
Perhaps because child rearing involves aspects of sexuality (i. e. hugs, kisses, physical closeness) These can be healthy when handled in an appropriate way provides benefits for children. Talks about how children, when they are infants, attach to their primary caregiver. Can be securely, insecurly, anxiously, or avoidantly attached. Went through and looked at how children do when their mother or primary caregiver leaves the room. Securely attached infants - the child was a little upset but would get over it. Insecurely or anxiously attached infants - the child would scream and be inconsolable when the mother would leave the room. Upon her return, they would still be inconsolable. Avoidantly attached infants - the child would have no connection to the mother. Unaffected when the mother leaves and comes back. Under the umbrella of psychodynamic theory/freudian thought. Also has a lot of sexual connotations. Freud believed that there are different psychosexual stages that infants and children go through in development.
