That lead to this: social economic inequality, political oppression, corruption, gender issues, generational change. Challenges for us foreign policy: previously we supported these regimes, they were pro america. Wizard of oz effect: social media aspect where one country can see what other countries were going. Democratic peace theory: democracies need a lot of consensus to go to war, democratic norms= require compromise, countries trade a lot with each other makes war very costly. Problems with peace theory: correlation and not causation, trade not actually, works for mature countries, democracy at end of bayonet if your interst is to have more allies, you are going to go to war.
