Americans are great consumers of heroin - which is a worldwide trade and a huge income source for criminals. Will be supplied regardless of criminalization because of demand. Accounts for billion in sales annually. One of the most widely abused illegal drugs in the world. Problem: it is an illicit drug and more dangerous. Low margin of safety (range between ed and ld is small) Quantity that can kill a user is 10-15x the amount that can get you high. Extremely popular because of the feelings it produces in the user. Pure heroin is a white powder; usually cut with lactose. Have to go through illegal means to get it, so purity varies. You have no idea what you"re getting! Purity level depends on where it came from. By the time it gets to the street, it is exponentially less (they do this to make more money) Users are typically unaware of this variance.
