Important aspects of strategic volunteer management: setting a mission and vision, assessing organizational climate. Mission achievement should make a direct contribution to the overall agency. It is the foundational piece of strategic planning. Inspirational, hopeful, where the organization will be in the future. Identifying obstacles to accomplishing the mission: developing a strategy to overcome each obstacle. Should be articulated and integrated into the vision of the organization: create a commonality of purpose, establish a positive role for volunteers to play in mission critical activities. Job description, development, interviewing, supervision, evaluation, etc: programs should correspond with the starting point, clear goals, provided feedback, and supervised in a friendly manner, volunteer manager is responsible for the overall puzzle and putting the pieces together. Levels of culture: artifacts, beliefs and values, underlying assumptions, organizational style will influence determination by volunteers whether organization is worth the donation of their time. Staff leadership to develop programs and maintain services.
