Relies on a variety of empirically based techniques to increase the client"s ability to handle their own problems. Collaborative empiricism: client takes an active role as an (cid:498)expert(cid:499) in their own life, therapist is directive in identifying cognitive distortions, skills deficits, and emotional problems. Dichotomous thinking: you see things in black and white categories, example: if your performance falls short of perfect, you see yourself as a failure. Personalization: you see yourself as the cause of some negative events when in reality, you had little to do with it.
