Document Summary

Similarity is more likely for long term relationships- we may like people that are different than us for flings. If someone feels another person likes them they"re more likely to like them too. Companionate love: feeling of affection we feel for a person who we care deeply about, but do not usually feel passionate about. Passionate love: feeling of intense longing and physical arousal for another person. Adult relationships are based on relationship with primary caregiver during infancy. Attachment style learned in infancy becomes schema for all relationships. Secure attachment (trust, lack of worry of being abandoned, mature, lasting relationships, with caregivers who are supportive) Avoidant attachment (disinterested, distant caregivers, trust others less, difficult to develop intimate relationships) Anxious/ambivalent attachment (inconsistent, overbearing caregivers, wants closeness but worried people wont reciprocate feelings of intimacy, usually have the shortest relationships- they get in them quickly and then leave when they feel rejected)
