Generalized beliefs or opinions based on individual experiences. Wrong, 16-24 are the worst drivers, and guys worse than girls. Can lead to fear, hat, and mistreatments. Today, we have both negative and positive stereotypes of aging. Research in the journal of advertising history shows a huge study of 2,000 commercials. Most viewed adults in positive or negative light. Generalized belief that categorized all older people in a favorable light. Becoming more prevalent due to an aging population. Today, we"re starting to see more examples of healthy and active older adults. Perfect grandparents: stereotype of all elders as family-oriented, kind, loving, generous, grateful, wise, supportive, understanding, knowledgeable. Problem: not all older adults have good family relationships and some aren"t interested in being grandparents at all. Golden agers: stereotype of all elders as high achievers. We"re seeing more active adults in the baby boomers. They want to do more than just sit in a rocking chair on the front porch.
