Extent of property crime: ncvs (victim statements) and ucr (police stations) note how common property crime is, declined significantly since the 1990s, reasons for the decline, target hardening, routine activities theory. Need a suitable target: demographic changes in the population, people don"t carry cash, spend more time at home, electronic banking and security codes. Shoplifters: snitches: amateurs who steal merchandise of little value that they keep for themselves, boosters: skilled professionals who sell their stolen good or fences or pawnshops. Come from criminal world and legitimate occupations: real estate, delivery drivers, landscaping, maid services, postal service, etc, fences: sell the stolen goods to customers. Property crime victimization: costs and circumstances: costs, economic, spend a lot of money on security systems, firearms, and other items to prevent burglaries and protect themselves from intruders. Especially for young girls: a look @ shoplifting, shoplifting is very common.
