Everyone understands what will happen if you break certain laws: ex: if a women had a child and she was married the child was presumed to a product of the marriage. If the husband is in jail when the women has a child and the couple gets divorced the husband that was in jail is still presumed to be the dad if there is no known third party. Legislation: whatever the legislative body provides: constitution: federal and state, administrative regulations: ex: tsa in airport- what do they do if they find certain substances. Why are statutes often vague: human behavior: to be broad. More exceptions make it more confusing: legislators draft laws with an eye toward getting majority support. Primary sources of individual rights: us constitution, bill of rights: 1st 10 amendments to the constitution. Included 23 specific individual rights which were set forth in the 1st 8 amendments. Originally only applied to the federal government.
