Document Summary

Classical conditioning: learn new responses when they are connected or paired: responses that are automatic and involuntary. Link between stimulus and response: 2 types: unconditioned reflex and conditioned reflex. Inborn: automatic, no learning, generally the same for all specie members, unconditioned stimulus (ucs) that evokes unconditioned response (ucr, ucs-stimulus that evokes an ucr without previous conditioning, ucr-unlearned reaction to ucs that occurs without previous conditioning. For classical conditioning to occur requires closeness in time and that the ucs must appear to depend or be contingent on the cs: cs must occur before and signal the onset of the ucs. Key concepts of classical conditioning: extinction, conditioned stimulus presented without the unconditioned stimulus, cs but no uc. Operant conditioning: learn as a result to rewards and punishment: voluntary behaviors, b. f. skinner. Reinforcement: event following a response that increases an organism"s tendency to make that response. Punishment: event following a response that weakens an organism"s tendency to make that response.
