3 Major Theoretical Perspectives
1) Structural-Function
- unity, harmony, stability - society is FULL of this,
society works together complexly together to promote solidarity
a) Example : one voice of authority in classroom, class times, keeps
things in order
2) Social conflict
- focus on inequalities, conflict in powe, moral judgements
about what is good and bad, injustice , what should change socity
3) Symbolic interactionism
- focus on a society as a process that “mean”
something - this can be different from one person to the next
a) Explaining the south (in south would be different than the north to
another person here and there)
