Document Summary

Oldest copy of rig veda composed around 14th century. Vedic people supported cattle raids on the dasas. Some dasas are described as patrons of the sacrificial rituals of the vedic, and other times as allies. Inter conflict between vedic people over land, cattle, water, etc. More spoken language than written language we get more inter-lingual discourse between individuals. Panini is very well studied by individuals who are interested in linguisitcs. Gavishti = to search for cows = to fight. Horse = movement, speed, mythological association w/ gods. Surplus allowed for trade and support for rituals. Rig veda, sama veda, yajur veda, artharva veda (1500 - 600 bce) Vedas not focused on the past and do not focus on telling a chronological story. Texts contain info on various aspects of the sacrfice, but not how to do the sacrifice specifically. Text is not only taught through oral recitation, but through gestures with the body.
