Allow us to fuse to normal genes to produce proteins that we can visualize. Co-invented by germans, max knott and ernst ruska in 1931. Electron microscopy provides detailed images of cells and cell parts. Allows us to view organisms in 3 dimensions. Can view at the atom level (nanoparticle size) Properties of agar: melts at 100 degrees c, solidifies at 42 degrees c. Problem is that bottles are not sterilized. 121 degrees c x 15 minutes x 15 psi (pounds per square inch) Uv light sterilizes when not in use. Bsl 3= research lab working with highly infectious airborne pathogens.
