Engage children in motivated, goal directed activity. Add a metacognitive component, such as reflection training. For classroom settings, with focus on children in need of additional support. Children who may be missing the structure and teaching moments that more advantage children commonly receive. Worked with masten, carlson at embedded lab at shelter in minneapolis with onsite preschool. Level 2- don"t listen to bear (sitting on hands) Level 3- don"t listen to bear (standing) Level 4- bear and dragon together with modeling. Level 5- bear and dragon together without modeling. Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally. Mindfulness is an ideal intervention: targets both top down and bottom up influences. Trains sustained reflective reprocessing while also creating conditions conducive to reflection. 2 title 1 (kipp) schools (houston & dc) 30 sessions (24 minutes) over 6 weeks, tested pre and post by blind examiner. Delayed post test (time 3) may-june 2015.
