One of the first ways to express themselves. Can be compared to the babbling of a baby. No meaning or purpose behind mark making other than enjoyment. Learning how to control the muscles in their hands. Better to be hands off and just let the kids have fun. Disordered scribbling -> controlled scribbling -> name scribbling. Color- methodical use of what is available- if 5 colors are put out they may start at one end and work to the other. Encourage students and approve of the creative process.
