Document Summary
A cognitive process through which we interpret our experiences and come to our own unique understandings. Perception boils down to how we respond to people, objects and environments as we encounter them in our daily interaction. Perception is a process: we select, organize, and interpret information to develop our perception, goes beyond senses. Selecting, organizing, and interpreting information happens during each communication. The perception process: selecting we choose what we see, organizing - we label and identify (guided by culture) Interpreting we attach a meaning to what we see and how we organize it. We are making many decisions quickly about the symbols and messages we see. We have to filter through a lot of information to determine. Selective attention - we only see a little of what is going on around us, and often, just the parts that impact what we are trying to accomplish.
