BIOL 112 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Algae, Commensalism, Herbivore
Document Summary
Community: assemblage of populations of various species living close enough for potential interactions. /- interaction because energy is wasted in both parties ecological role; ecologically similar species can coexist in a community if there is at least one. Fundamental niche: niche potentially occupied that species: resource partitioning: differentation of ecological niches; prevents exact perfect overlap, realized niche: niche actually occupied by that species, may differ as a result of competition. Mimicry: batesian mimicry: harmless species that mimics a harmful species, m llerian mimicry: harmful species that mimics other harmful species. Have modified/ absent digestive systems and enhanced reproductive systems: host and parasite coevolving with eachother, endoparasites; inside; ectoparasites; outside. Facultative: both species can survive alone: affect the survival and reproduction of each species. Intraspecific interaction: relationships between the same species. Species diversity: variety of organisms that make up the community.
