Lateral ventricles lined with choroid plexus, produces csf by filtering blood. Moves from lateral to third to the fourth and then drains into bloodstream. Arachnoid: weblike, web of tissue, contains csf. Neural communication: primary function of the neuron. How does a neuron generate an electrical signal. All has to do with changes in the concentrations of different ions inside and outside of the cell. Ion channels allow movement of ions across the membrane, into and out of the cell. Ion channels: movement of ions into and out of the cell through ion channels is the basis for the electrical signals generated by neurons. Channels will only allow one type of ion to pass. Some ion channels are always open while others (gated channels) require something to open them (binding of a neurotransmitter) What causes movement of ions across ion channels. Diffusion: particles will naturally move from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
