Humans born with the ability to walk but don"t have developed muscles to do so. At ~3 months they lose this reflex and need to be re-taught how to walk once these muscles do develop. Preferences tested by seeing what they stare at longer: prefer human faces and face-like images, human sounds preferred, prefer mother"s voice/smell over others. Because need food/comfort to survive and mother provides it (evolutionary) Piaget"s stage theory of cognitive development: stage theory. Move stage to stage at certain ages. Accommodation put new things into new schemas (change knowledge structure: stage 1. Child learns relationships between actions and the real world (cause and effect) Attachment (stranger anxiety) more info in next lecture: stage 2. Child acquires ability to form mental images of objects and events and can represent the world with words (language development) Symbolic play take object and pretend it is something else. Egocentrism don"t have ability to see things from someone else"s perspective.
