Because mongols ruled with an iron st people could nally safely walk across asia: marco polo does this and tells europeans, europeans could now nally trade with china and arabs, bubonic plague ravaged europe. But after wages go way up: due to lower population. This allows for a surplus of wealth, and people could now use money for things other than just food. This is the beginning of market capitalism: europeans found their advantage in north america. Gold, silver, etc, they now have something arabs and chinese want: this is the great divergence. Europe begins to surpass china and the arab world: china had greatest armada. Could"ve kept exploring, but looked inward instead. European explorers travel to spice islands which turns into a billion dollar industry.
