Charles delucena meigs, ob: advanced idea that contagion causes diseases, encouraged people to practice good hygiene to decrease infection among people. Robert hooke: looked at fleas through microscopes. Antonie van leeuwenhoek: first person to observe bacteria with microscope (in pond water) Aristotle evidence of design/purpose in nature (teleology)
