HUMANDEV 270 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Theory Of Multiple Intelligences, Fluid And Crystallized Intelligence
Document Summary
Initially started bc of concerns over why different children are doing better than others in school. How does theory inform our decision making about children. A general factor across a variety of tasks. Current studies indicate that a general factor in intelligence exists; known as g. Fluid intelligence : the ability to process knowledge quickly and adapt to new situations. Crystallized intelligence , knowledge, and skills acquired through more formal learning such as schooling, past experiences, and culture. Three levels of intelligence: stratum iii - general intelligence or g, stratum ii: 10 specific abilities, stratum i - 70 to 100 specific abilities. Intelligence includes: analytical intelligence, creative intelligence, and practical intelligence. Intellectual behavior is based on: the environment context, prior experiences, and the cognitive processes required by the task. Is how a person uses available environmental supports and how they approach situations using symbolic tools. Used in ww1 by the us army to weed out the mentally unfit.
