Document Summary

The idea that two alleles or one gene separate from each other to make gametes. Progeny inherit one allele from each parent. In the case of the peas, the mutation is in a transcription factor that gets mis- spliced. The principle of independent assortment: different genes are passed on independent of one another. Question: if you have a non-carrier of cystic fibrosis and someone who does have cystic fibrosis: these two have different genes, these two have different alleles. Think about what would happen if you crossed alleles together. Mitosis starts with pre-cell and all two cells with the same amount of dna. In meiosis, you end up with four daughter cells with half of the dna: you also have homologous chromosome pairing in meiosis: called tetrads, you also have crossing over in meiosis. What is meant by the n : it is the number of chromosomes.
