Compartments the compartmentalization has advantages in efficiency and specialization, and defense. Do not memorize all of these names. It is efficient to translate protein one place then move them. Proteins need to get into the membrane in the cell. Most er proteins are targeted there during translation. The proteins have a signal sequence, which is recognized by a soluble protein that then helps to take it to the er. The signal sequence is cleaved once the protein enters the er. Signal sequence tells the protein where to go.
