Document Summary

Bio151 lecture 6 cell signals and control of the cell cycle and mitosis. Both daughter cells can now respond to either the skin or neuron signal. Until they receive the signal they do not differentiate. Cell division genes are no longer expressed. This is an early version of the pathway leading to embryonic stem cell maintenance or differentiation. Cells in the early embryo have to differentiate. Sox2-oct4, nanog and state3 are transcription factors they tell the cell what parts of the dna to start transcribing (different parts). Icm is inner cell mass it will become the fetus ultimately, it"s what"s harvested for embryonic stem cell research and therapies). These transcription factors act together as seen here. They function as a whole to cause expression of certain genes or, in some cases, to block them. They are involved with the growth of the organism.
