They can directly help human society because they can be used as medicine. This tree bark has anti-tumor activity and this led to the production of taxol. Isolated vinblastine and vincristine which help in childhood cancer. Treat fevers, quinine, 1820"s-treated malaria: a lot of synthetic drugs are designed but the base is from plants. Taxol wasn"t synthesized for years until they used the pacific yew.
