Document Summary

Class size: smaller class size = greater achievement. Small classes had higher achievement and higher high school graduation rate. Small classes had better concentration, better attitude toward school and more class participation. Less time disciplining, more time teaching, giving individual attention. High expectations, making learning intrinsically rewarding (book) Teacher is sole authority - knowledge, rules, decision making. Students are passive - listen, respond when called on, complete teacher. Evaluation based on uniform standards based on what is expected at that grade level. Classrooms have learning centers - students solve self-chosen problems. Evaluation considers progress in relation to prior development. Us students behind students in other cultures. Effort - all can succeed academically with enough effort, while us parents tend to think it"s based on native ability (tommy just isn"t good at math) More time in school - academic year is 50 days longer, break up learning with more recess and field trips.
