The us south was unique in slave societies. The owners of the slaves are living with the slaves. Usually the owners are living somewhere else. Probably had a huge impact on relationship between slave and owner. Slave owners had a huge amount of political power in their own country. Brazil and the carribeans weren"t nearly as powerful.
