When you are insure of this security and basic needs of food, water, shelter, and safety are me, society will shift to meet post materialist values. Materialist values focus of the econ and material well-being and satisfaction and is seen in the older generation. Now that these basic needs are being met more people have post materialist values which include secular rational and self expression values. They emphasize equality, are more open to outsiders, foreigners and gays, support abortion, religion is less important, and seek life satisfaction. Stated that economic development determines society, politics, religion, etc: bourgeoisie takes over from landed aristocracy -> democracy, landed elite remains senior partner > bourgeoisie -> fascism, middle class fails to develop sufficiently to challenge landed aristocracy, premature revolution led by intellectuals with peasant mass base ->
