The raw material for adaptation to local conditions. Populations with higher genetic diversity are more resilient. Populations with low genetic diversity are vulnerable to environmental change or disease. Going into a forest causes new diseases to emerge. Inbreeding depression = genetically similar parents mate and produce inferior offspring. Domesticated organisms = purebred dogs but leads to weird genetic problems that makes it hard for these dogs to live. Species diversity = number or variety of species in a particular region. Evenness = relative abundance = similarity in number between species. Great number of species interactions often leads to greater ecosystem resilience. Resilient to climate change, different migration patterns. The loss of a species affect ecosystems differently.
