Because there was so much uncertainty about the long term effects of prolonged bombing, it was important to show that britain was invincible and build up spirit/morale. Genuinely true that the second world was is democratic nations against non-democratic authoritarian nations, with monstrous intentions. Needed to be operated in ways that didn"t contradict, and administered in a way that much of the time seemed fair. How to mobilize people"s support without making them feel like there is a contradiction was hard to do. Important successes of rationing was that it was fair and did take into account certain differences. Standardized but wasn"t completely inflexible and was quite humane. Evacuation, large scale system of categorizing and moving people particularly children in a systematic way, doing so in a way that is relatively fair and standardized. Parts that could feel cold, some people did see it primarily as a cold thing, but it also saved lives.
