Companies can give users that are near their business location specific coupons: control plane locating. Trilateration (gps) satellites around the earth, any place on earth has at least 3 views from a satellite: gms localization. Multilateration (mobile phone tracking) cell towers, roaming signal so cell phone companies can track phones: local range technologies. Important because they allow internet of things to exist mesh network of devices, any device can be connected. Global positioning system: gps devices only receive information, they do not send it, structures can block gps signals. Example: tree, tall building, etc: an approximate location can still be found using 3 satellites and a known elevation or estimated path. 4 satellites is more precise: a very precise atomic clock is required. Phones do not have these, clock comes from cell tower: in the future, gps will assist devices to turn on from other locations.
