Analogy: people died before cigarettes were invented. Rock weathering: solid rock (minerals) + acidic water dissolved ion. Critical for water quality, regulates our climate. Calcium carbonate (limestone) + acidic rainwater calcium and carbonate ions. Tombstones (can use to measure the amount of weathering) As water becomes more acidic, there will be more weathering. Carbonate ions and calcium ions are anti acids also known as buffers (resists change) Carbonate ions resist change in acidity of water. Know that low ph is more acidic.
