Baym"s main point know these and examples of them: the daily show represents an important experiment in journalism. But, it is opinionated they"re not journalists and therefore don"t have to follow that code can"t take everything they say or do as serious, gives them power to critique. Intimidation watching the real news can be intimidating if you don"t have a lot of political knowledge, these humor shows are easier to understand or get interested in politics if you are not: 1. Fake news update is used to question the status quo (institutions, norms, the government) Use of humor allows them to do this over serious journalists. Government is being critiqued take less seriously critiques from steven colbert then someone on the national news. Satire delivers a complex mix of comedy and politics. Rejects dispassionate observation (picks a point of view) Humor as a license to critique power.
