AAPTIS 210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Islam In The United States, Dawah, Trap House
Document Summary
Maulana haroon grew up in an island amongst the caribbean islands, an island ignorant to the acceptance of islam. In 1973, the country was blessed with the arrival of a muslim man who preached about islam. After learning about islam from the muslim man, haroon converted and was the second man out of the island to be a follower of islam. Haroon spoke about how the island was composed of christians, though not religious, they still believed in one god. Like what we learned about arab/muslim stereotypes in class, Haroon claimed that many people of his island, including him, believed muslims were terrorists and they demonized islam, claiming that it was a religion of malice and anger instead of peace. Haroon claimed that before he adopted islam he spent days locked in a trap house , getting high and blaring raunchy music, wasting his life away. He associated with crews that controlled the slum neighborhoods and menaced innocent individuals.
