Document Summary

Patient w/multiple lacerations + left upper limb pain post boating accident. Post attention to multiple open wounds + left limb is evaluated for nerve damage. Lateral = near thumb medial = near pinky. Plexus : collection of nerve fibers that are exchanged/redistributed, forming new set of multisegmental peripheral nerves innervating skeletal muscles /skin. limbs/neck/thorax. Brachial plexus : plexus associated with the arm/upper. Brachial plexus begins as nerve roots from cervical neck + thoracic region = c5 - c6 - c7- c8 & t1 nerves = rami. To understand brachial plexus pain = understand anatomy of thorax + passageways that may impair/alter functions of brachial plexus. Must exit neck to enter the upper limb. Brachial plexus = surrounded by bones + muscles. Exits posterior triangle of neck, posterior to anterior scalene muscle + anterior to middle scalene muscle. Lateral cord : anterior divisions form from upper + Medial cord : anterior division from lower trunk.
