ICT 202 Lecture 1: Week 2: Information and ICTs
Document Summary
We are constantly taking in information through our senses and translating it. Ex: lecture notes taking what you hear someone say and translating it into written format. We use tools to help us do so. Ex: pens, paper, laptop, along with many other devices. As we gather and manage information in our lives, we use technologies that help us send, receive, record, track and manipulate information. We use both information and technology to: Resolve or reduce uncertainty in our lives. Data is a collection of unprocessed symbols (which can include text, numbers, images, audio and video. Computer process data (input) into information (output) and often store data and resulting information for future use. This allows individuals, business, government, etc. to make more well- informed decisions. Ex: many early computers were developed to aerodynamics calculations for bombing during wartime. We are surrounded by a constant barrage of messages containing information. Process information so it can be made meaningful.
