Gender is the social construction of the biological differences between men and women. Gender is a focus on the unequal relations between men and women. Many women engage in commercial sex work because of poverty. Economic and social vulnerability remain strongly associated with commercial sex. Gender factors can increase vulnerability of hiv infection. Social norms and values: risks that are socially and culturally created. Women"s biology makes hiv transmission more efficient from a man to a woman than a woman to man. There are higher concentrations of hiv in seman than in vaginal fluids. Coercive or forced sex might lead to micro lesions in the genital tract that facilitate entry of the virus. Women often have sti"s that are left untreated, which increases.
