Business intelligence is an extremely broad analytics concept. Internal: employee performance, item sales competing products & prices. Fundamentally, amazon"s recommender system is a type of business intelligence system. Business intelligence workers and tools process queries and create reports. Conventionally, purchase correlations would be kept internal and used to structure store layout. Bpr is changing an existing process to a new one, commonly done as a response to: Map process (this should already be done) Sometimes, the process reengineering isn"t incremental but revolutionary. Quite often, speed-to-market is a high priority when introducing a new system. Perhaps surprisingly, it"s easier and faster to build a separate database than to integrate it into an existing system. But lack of integration creates long-term issues: Records stored in multiple databases may have conflicting data. Difficult to cross-check data for accuracy (o2) Potentially significant latency in queries across databases. When different functional areas or other work groups have separate database systems.
