Parts of speech: words and phrases that make up our sentences. Adverbial can be adverb or prepositional phrase. Completes the subject with a noun or an adjective. Intransitive means that the sentence doesn"t transfer over. Example: anthony rizzo gave a gift to obama. If something can be written as a preposition, it is no longer an indirect object. Is the sentence a state of being verb or an action verb. State of being: s/be/adverbial or s/be or lv/sc (noun or adjective) Action: s/iv. (means you can add a period) Test for object compliment: see if you can insert is before the object compliment. Noun phrase (np) can contain: determine adjective, noun adjective, headword, prepositional phrase. Indirect object can be changed into a prepositional phrase.
