Goal is to provide clear, accurate picture of behaviors, thoughts, and attributes. Extent to which we can generalize findings to real world. Extent to which we can draw cause and effect inferences. Studying one person or small number of people for extended period of time. Common with rare types of brain damage or mental illness. Helpful in providing existence proofs, but possibly misleading and anecdotal. Observation of two traits or attributes related to each other. Measure of relation between two factors and how well one can predict change in one from observing other.
