Applied entomology: study of insects and how they impact human affairs. Animal species: insects: 73% anthropods 12% = 85% The good includes bees, butterflies, dung beetle, assassin bug. Delusory parasitosis - mistaken belief that insects are infesting a person"s hair, skin, etc . Misdiagnosed medical conditions (. eg. brown recluse spider) Insects are arthropods : (arthro = jointed , pod = foot ) Heart is dorsal, nerve cord is ventral. Dorsal: of, on, or relating to the upper side or back of an animal, plant, or organ. Ventral: of, on, or relating to the underside of an animal or plant; abdominal. Wet environments including under rocks and places with moisture. Spiders, scorpions, daddy long legs, wood scorpions. Three distinct body regions: head, thorax, abdomen (figure 1) Thorax with three pairs of legs, often with two pairs of wings. If it has wings it is most likely an insect. Some crustatons have multiple, insects have one.
