Narrow temples are easier to build; as technology increases, temples become wider. Petrification: start to build temples out of stone. Construction becomes much more expensive can only be built by state (civic temples) Incentive for states to compete w/each other by building massive temples. Popular in western coast of turkey and islands. Altar: most important part (give gifts to gods/appease gods)
