Fingerprints are a reproduction of friction skin ridges found on the palm side of the fingers and thumbs. Loop 65% ridge that enters from one side and exits on the same side 1 delta. Arch 5% ridges that enter on one side and exit on the other side. Whorl 30% at least 2 deltas, and most have ridges that form a continuous circuit between the deltas. Minutiae are major features of a fingerprint used for comparisons: types of fingerprints left at a crime scene. Visible print a fingerprint made when the finger deposits a visible material (i. e. , ink, blood) onto a surface. Plastic print a fingerprint impressed in a soft surface (i. e. , soap, putty) Latent print a fingerprint made when body perspiration and/or oils present on the finger ridges are transferred to a surface, leaving an impression. Ability of a computer to scan and digitally encode fingerprints so that they can be subject to high-speed computer processing.
