Document Summary

The heart contracts and relaxes during a cardiac cycle. Each cardiac cycle has 2 phases diastole (relaxation) and systole (contraction) S1 = lubb av valve closure start of isovolumic ventricular contraction. S2 = dupp sl valve closure. At point e edv preload (end diastolic volume) 135 ml (stroke. At point f esv (end systolic volume) 65 ml. Flow proceeds xrom higher pressure to lower pressure. Lext side ox heart creates higher pressures than right side ox heart since it must send blood through a larger circuit (systemic) Stroke volume is the volume ox blood pumped per contraction. Stroke volume (sv): amount ox blood pumped by 1 ventricle during 1 contraction. Cardiac output is a measure ox cardiac perxormance. Cardiac output (co): volume ox blood pumped by 1 ventricle/minute. Indicator ox total blood xlow, but does not indicate how blood is distributed to various tissues. Percentage ox edv (preload) ejected during each contraction.
