There was a tolerance of misconduct shown by individuals. Strict punishment wasn"t a reform kind of practice. Progressive era introduced therapeutic ideas to the justice system. Sent belief that crime is due to a disease look type of condition, a disturbance in the personality, a defect that was there from the start. Progressive era suggested that the causes of crime were determined by the individual case. The focus shifted away from the offense to the offender. There was an investigation of people who were found guilty of their background. Philosophy made use of medical image, language, thinking, and assumed that with scientific methods and procedures, researchers and practitioners could find reason of pathology within the individual. Progressives believed that with correct identification of the problem, we could resort to science and determine the correct approach/solution to the problem. Person found guilty are sent to a pre-test evaluation/report. An intdetermiant sentence specified a minimum and made the maximum indeterminened.
