They changed how people thought about gender. Before it was defined in terms of traits (division of labor) and roles (mother, provider) Nature : all the world"s a stage; we"re all always acting, people performed gender based off of the social understanding of it, w&z saw it as more than just roles. W&z theorize how gender is produced and reproduced in everyday interactions. It is an achievement, ongoing routine, and mundane activity embedded in and constituted through everyday interaction. Agnes: male sex, female sex category, but some discrepancies, gender is what she does to reassure herself and others that she should fit into the sex category of female. Boys and men who don"t show much masculinity show gender transgression. They get bullied and often have social, psychological, and economic consequence. Doting and devoted father who spent most of his time watching the state and was with his family. Washingto and jefferson: heroic artisan: physical strength and republican values.
