Document Summary

Foundations of motivation: motivation is a very broad term that encompasses all the processes that initiate, direct, and sustain behavior, the components of motivation. Psychologists consider motivation to have three components: activation, persistence, and intensity. In activation phase; you take the first steps required to achieve your goal, find out what you need in order to achieve the goal. Persistence stage; the faithful and continued effort put forth into achieving the goal at hand. This requires you to put your plan into action and stick to it even when you face distractions and obstacles. Intensity refers to the focused energy and attention applied in order to achieve the goal. Motive: a concept that is narrower than the full scope of motivation itself. It is defined as a need or desire that energizes and directs behavior toward a goal: primary drives and social motives. The primary drives direct our behavior towards the fulfillment of these needs.
