After the census, every state redraws the US House, State Senate and State House districts
within their states. (Redistricting)
o US Senate is not redrawn because it is an at large election and they represent the entire
state, not districts.
o It is up to each individual state to decide how the districts are redrawn
Majority of states give that task to the state legislature (Texas is one of these
states)
Some states have an independent panel that redraws the districts
o Once the maps are redrawn, they are submitted as a bill and after it passes both houses,
the governor approves it and it is law.
