KIN 3304 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Synovial Joint, Hyaline Cartilage, Sesamoid Bone
Document Summary
The body is made up of 4 different types of tissues: Conduct impulses involving the brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves, cranial nerves, neuroglia. Involved with respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary and reproductive systems. Surrounds entire bone: where bone cells are created. Every epiphysis is covered with this cartilage to provide smooth movement between bones. Long bones - made up of a diaphysis and epiphyses. Closes once the bone reaches full maturity (bone tissue replaces cartilaginous) o. Spine or spinous process longer and thinner projection. Condyles large bony knobs at either end of a long bone. Articular surface part of a condyle that joins with another bone. Epicondyles smaller bony knobs that sometimes appear above condyles. Fossa smooth, hollow surface (serve as attachment sites) Facet smaller, flatter smooth surface (serve as attachment sites) Notch area that appears to be cut out to make room for the passage of other structures. Foramen appears as a straight up hole in the bone.
